AI Lead

In this role, you will design and deliver practical AI solutions, taking ideas from early exploration through to production-ready systems. You will build and maintain LLM-powered applications, including retrieval-augmented workflows and tool integrations, and work across the full AI lifecycle from problem framing and data preparation to deployment and monitoring.

You will collaborate with product and engineering teams to embed AI capabilities into Datel’s Sage ecosystem products, contributing directly to production codebases. As part of this, you will help establish best practices for prompting, evaluation, and system reliability.

Beyond delivery, you will work with teams across the business to identify opportunities where AI can improve internal workflows, tooling, and operational processes. You will support AI pilots through to real outcomes, explain technical trade-offs clearly to non-specialists, and help build confidence and capability in AI usage across the organisation.

Over time, you will also play a key role in shaping Datel’s AI direction. This includes championing AI guidance and guardrails, evaluating emerging technologies, contributing to product and technology strategy, and helping define a clear and sustainable AI roadmap for the business.

You will bring strong AI software engineering experience, with a track record of delivering production-ready solutions using technologies such as Python, TypeScript, or C#. You will have hands-on experience building LLM-based applications and a solid understanding of retrieval-augmented generation approaches.

Equally important, you will have a product mindset and a collaborative approach. You will be comfortable explaining complex ideas clearly, influencing decisions, and working closely with others to shape both the problem and the solution. You will enjoy enabling teams to succeed with AI, not just building solutions yourself.

Experience with vector search, data pipelines, AI monitoring, security, or governance considerations would be beneficial, as would exposure to ERP, financial software, or B2B SaaS environments.
